Breweries getting out the vote in style
What’s even better than a cold pint? A cold pint that supports voting. Regardless of who you vote for, it is your right to choose and your vote matters.
Let’s travel back in time to the year of 1776 when the United States became an independent and sovereign nation free from Great Britain. At the time, white men aged 21 and over who owned land had the right to vote. Everyone else was at the mercy of those who could vote.
Voting rights in this country has been a battle throughout history that many before us worked hard to advocate for our current rights.
In 1920, the right to vote was slightly expanded to white women. In 1965, after much protesting and many thanks to MLK Jr, women’s rights organizations, the Voting Rights Act expanded voting to people of color and all different races and socioeconomic backgrounds. Shoutout to President Lyndon B. Johnson for signing this into law.
As many know, voting in America is free and fair to all residents over 18. Let’s highlight some of the breweries that have leaned into this year's midterms.
We’ll start with Discretion Brewing in Santa Cruz, CA. This year they brewed up a special particIPAte batch, a west coast IPA that they released on October 24th during a collab event with Vote Mobile where you could register to vote, drop off your ballot, and other voting services offered all while enjoying a cold pint. The can has a QR code that you can scan to learn more about voting. And the best part? Their four packs are only $17.76 through election day ;)
We highlighted Stoup Brewing last week for their Dunk us for Democracy event with their release of Time to Vote where the benefits proceed Seattle Indivisible–a grass roots organization fighting for equal voting rights and other activist causes. Fun for a cause, we love to see it.
Lastly, and possibly the coolest story of all… Presidential Brewing Co is hosting an Election Day Party on November 3! Here you can grab a “Bipartisan Flight” where there will be signature beers that reach “across the aisle of flavor”, and all for $10. Now that’s a proposition we can get behind.
And if you’re feeling extra ready to put election season behind you, you can shred your political mail and even get a discount for it!! Each piece of mail is worth 1% off your bill. Presidential will let you redeem up to a maximum of 40 pieces of mail earning you 20% off your bill on election day, and 20% off to be used on your next visit.
And the most fun part, there will be an actual voting booth where you can vote on which new hop to use in Presidential's next batch of beer. This brewery knows how to throw a party and get out the vote!
We hope that next Tuesday you have a chance to cast your ballot, sit back with a cold pint, and put this election season behind you. Remember that many people before you fought long and hard so that we have the rights that we do today to make our voices heard. And the brewers who brew your beer work long and hard to make sure your pints are cold and hoppy.
Cheers, and don’t forget to vote! <3
