Good morning and happy Friday!

In other beer news, this week we received word that we will be receiving a one of a kind wedding gift this fall: a home brewed Brickwarmer Holiday Red ale to toast on our special day! Shoutout Andrew's dad.

In this week's issue:

  • A different... (but very welcome) type of brewing

  • The 100th birthday celebration that has us extremely jealous

  • A tribute to the weird and wild in beer collabs and crossovers

Our faves from this week

  • 👾 A sweet arcade, a vegan menu, and environmentally efficient business practices; Milwaukee's Dead Bird Brewing hits the trifecta with all three.

  • 🍶 Sonoma County is ready for sake bombin' with its first sake brewery courtesy of fourth-generation Japanese American, Bruce Shimizu.

  • 🍋 Garage Beer teams up with Liquid Death on a sterile campaign to convince you to send your pee to data centers. No, seriously.

  • 🫖 Happy 100th bday to Twisted Fate Brewing's co-owners' grandma! Partyin' in style with a tea-inspired saison with orange zest, cinnamon and lavender.

  • ☕ The next time you read The Morning Brew, you could be sipping a Morning Brew inspired coffee blonde ale.

Three new beers that have us geeking out

We’ll be the first to admit: Sometimes we judge a beer by its label. A good collab, weird crossover, or even just a silly name really speaks to us. This week we’re highlighting some of our recent standouts in this category.

New Belgium put Michael Myers on a Voodoo Ranger can, and horror + beer is always an easy win in our books. The Slasher IPA is featured in their Halloween twelve-pack, weighs in at 7.5%, and tastes like citrus and pine. Too early for fall-themed beer? We think not!

Up in Newport, New Hampshire, Fourth Kind Films and Protectworth Brewing made Hoppy Encounters of the Fourth Kind, a limited IPA with a release party this Saturday. Expect live music, games, giveaways, and a crowd that includes both kids and dogs. This one is all about two neighbors having fun in the name of spooky season and beer.

Then there is our favorite name in beer this year: Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin, a double IPA from Bluejacket and The Veil. Say that five times fast. It is a double IPA, so the name doubles to match, and yes, there is a small dose of house-made tater tots in the mash. We love it even more for its very silly label wrapped around a serious 8 percent hoppy DIPA.

So that is three beers: one masked killer, one hometown studio, and one guy whose name is fun to say twice. None of it makes sense, which is the entire appeal. Somebody pitched each of these out loud, somebody said yes, and the world is slightly better for it.

PS: The Voodoo Ranger pack is the one you can actually find, so start there. If you are near Newport this weekend, go say hi to the aliens for us!!
